During my personal project, I went through a lot of stages in the year. From confidence, to stress, to procrastination to organization, these were things that me and many of my peers experienced throughout that only just made our project better and allowed us to grow as IB learners, students and people. Procrastination and inorganization was a big part of the beginning of my personal project, however to avoid this, I used my action plan to plan and organize my tasks accordingly, and to allow myself space for other subjects and work without making me feel overwhelmed. I used process journals as a way to log in my efforts everytime I completed a lot of work which helped me grow and allowed me to see the flaws in the ways I was working allowing me to progress through my project smoothly and easily.
Covid-19 was something none of us expected in 2020. With cases slowly rising, in May 2020, I made the decision to utilize the opportunity of personal project to help the community around me and raise awareness on the aspect of this pandemic that, at that time, was given very little attention to. That aspect was relating to not only me, but my family and friends. This project and the experiences I gained from it helped me, my family and friends and teachers to grow more aware of mental and physical health, more than we were in mid-2020. It helped my knowledge about the virus grow and taught me valuable skills and things like book creating & publishing, psychology of the human brain and being an inquirer, open-minded, caring, and knowledgeable which allowed me to grow as an IB learner and as a person through the project. My knowledge on many things like psychology will most certainly help me in year 12 when taking the subject, which is something that I felt was useful. The research I did, like surveys and websites, allowed me to see the world in covid-19 from other people’s eyes. This project was memorable, because I got to help people, which I think as a student and person, is something that leaves a lasting impression on you and the ones you were there for. Below is my criteria that I made myself. In order for my product to be successful, it was important that it was graded strictly against the criteria. In general, I thought my book lied in the 7-8 category as it had a perfect mix of relevant, helpful information as well as a professional look. It kept the readers hooked due to its short pages and visual elements, and the shorter the read, the easier the information will be locked to their long-term memory rather than their short-term memory , allowing them to be cautious and educated, per the goal of the product.
